Drug-Free Society is the Goal: Malkajgiri Police Commissioner Sumathi

The Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate has intensified its crackdown on drug activity in student-dominated areas by strengthening surveillance and adopting advanced technology-driven strategies to dismantle local drug networks operating near educational hubs.

Police Commissioner Sumathi said the initiative focuses on protecting students from narcotics while targeting supply chains around educational institutions , especially in sensitive zones such as Dilsukhnagar and LB Nagar .

As part of the operation, authorities are deploying drones for night monitoring, tracking student movement and identifying suspicious gatherings near colleges and hostels. Special attention is being given to mapping drug-prone locations around campuses.

To enhance enforcement, night patrol teams have been equipped with drug detection kits to conduct immediate checks on suspects. Officials said this will ensure faster intervention and help curb drug distribution at the ground level.

The commissioner noted that out of 3,200 installed CCTV cameras , more than 70% are active and connected to a centralized command system for real-time monitoring. A special inspection of hostels in nearby areas has also been carried out.

Hostel managements have been directed to install high-resolution surveillance systems and promptly inform parents if students show behavioural changes. Strict action, including closure of premises, will be taken against hostels found supporting illegal activities.

Authorities are also closely monitoring pan shops suspected of involvement in drug sales. Officials warned that offenders will face stringent action under the NDPS Act , along with preventive detention laws.

Commissioner Sumathi cautioned that even a single drug-related offence can severely impact a student’s future. She urged youth to focus on education and personal growth, highlighting the importance of awareness, counselling, and rehabilitation programs alongside strict enforcement measures.
