Four juveniles have been apprehended in connection with the alleged assault on a Manipuri woman and her friend in a park in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area, police said on Monday. The incident occurred on Sunday evening near the Saket District Court Complex while the two were taking a walk.

According to Delhi Police , the minors allegedly made inappropriate and offensive remarks at the women, reportedly including racial slurs . When one of the women objected, the situation escalated into a verbal argument, after which the accused allegedly assaulted her physically. The victim sustained minor injuries and was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Police teams conducted raids that led to the arrest of all four juveniles believed to be involved. A criminal case has been registered under relevant provisions of law, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence as the investigation continues.

The incident drew widespread condemnation and attention. Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh took to social media to praise the Delhi Police, stating that he “appreciates the prompt response in registering a criminal case and extending support to the victims of racial harassment and assault involving two individuals from Manipur and Assam near the Saket Court area in Delhi.” He noted the apprehension of one juvenile and ongoing raids to catch the others, emphasizing that he hopes “strict action is taken so that justice is delivered and such incidents are not repeated.”

The assault follows a recent Malviya Nagar incident where a married couple, Harsh Singh and Ruby Jain, was arrested for allegedly hurling racial slurs at three women from Arunachal Pradesh during a dispute over dust from an air conditioner installation. Officials have reiterated that violence and racial harassment against people from the Northeast should not be tolerated. Police remain in regular contact with the victim as the probe continues.
