Nepalese man arrested in Delhi after killing partner, daughter in Uttarakhand
A 38-year-old Nepalese national, Deepak Bahadur, accused of murdering his live-in partner and her nine-year-old daughter in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, was arrested from Delhi on Monday, police said.
The double murder came to light on March 6 when local authorities received complaints of a foul smell from a rented room. A resident alerted police after noticing Bahadur had not been seen for several days. A team from Kotwali Rudraprayag police station found the room locked, and upon entry, discovered the bodies of the 34-year-old woman and her daughter in a decomposed state, suggesting the murders occurred several days earlier.
Bahadur was immediately suspected and a case registered. During the investigation, Uttarakhand Police traced him to Delhi and sought assistance from local authorities. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Akanksha Yadav said Bahadur was spotted near New Delhi Railway Station . Despite the heavy rush, police apprehended him as he allegedly attempted to board a train to Mumbai.
During questioning, Bahadur confessed that he had met the woman through social media and began living with her and her daughter. He allegedly discovered that she was involved with another person, leading to frequent arguments. During one such quarrel, he killed both the woman and the child.
Police said Bahadur was arrested under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code , covering murder and destruction of evidence. He has been handed over to Uttarakhand Police for further legal proceedings, and the investigation is ongoing.
