Pakistan’s military says it has killed hundreds of Afghan Taliban fighters as part of an ongoing cross-border campaign launched late last month following a series of attacks along the frontier.

The operation, named Operation Ghazab lil-Haq , began on February 26 after Pakistani authorities accused Afghan Taliban forces of striking 53 positions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border . Islamabad says the offensive aims to dismantle militant infrastructure and prevent further cross-border attacks.

According to Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, the latest official assessment indicates that 583 Afghan Taliban fighters have been killed and around 795 injured since the operation began. He said Pakistani forces also destroyed 242 Taliban check posts , while 38 additional posts were seized and later demolished during the course of the campaign.

Tarar added that the military has inflicted significant material losses on Taliban forces, claiming that 213 tanks, armoured vehicles and artillery systems were destroyed. He further stated that 64 locations inside Afghanistan were targeted in air strikes during the operation.

In a separate development, Pakistani security forces reported foiling an infiltration attempt by militants belonging to Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) near the Chaman border area . Troops engaged the militants in an exchange of fire, killing one of them, while others were reportedly wounded and managed to escape.

Security officials said soldiers recovered several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and equipment believed to have been intended for cutting through border fencing from the militant who was killed.

Earlier, aerial strikes carried out in the North Waziristan region reportedly destroyed additional Taliban positions along the border. Pakistani authorities maintain that the military operation will continue until what they describe as the threat of cross-border militancy is neutralised.
