Former Andhra Pradesh minister and YSR Congress Party leader Adimulapu Suresh on Friday lashed out at the state government, alleging that it had failed to protect the interests of tobacco farmers by ensuring fair market prices for their produce.

Suresh visited the tobacco procurement centre in Tanguturu, where he reviewed the prevailing market conditions and expressed serious concern over the steep decline in tobacco prices . Following the visit, the YSR Congress Party staged a massive protest outside the Tobacco Board office, drawing participation from party leaders, cadre and a large number of farmers. Protesters raised slogans demanding immediate government intervention to safeguard farmers’ livelihoods.

Speaking at the protest, Suresh said tobacco growers were facing severe financial distress as they were unable to secure remunerative prices for their crop despite months of hard work and heavy investment. He noted that the price slump had pushed many farming families into debt and uncertainty.

The YSRCP leader also accused the ruling dispensation of neglecting farmers after coming to power, despite making several assurances during the election campaign. Reiterating his party’s commitment to the farming community, he said the YSR Congress Party would continue to fight for the rights and welfare of farmers across the state.

Demanding urgent action, Suresh called on the government to announce viable support prices for tobacco farmers and provide immediate relief. He warned that the party would intensify its agitation and launch stronger protests if the issue was not resolved at the earliest.

Several local YSRCP leaders and hundreds of farmers joined the demonstration, voicing anger over the continuing crisis in the tobacco market.
