A wage dispute involving nearly 200 tribal labourers from NTR district sparked a major protest outside the Telugu Desam Party headquarters in Mangalagiri on Friday , with the workers demanding payment of pending dues amounting to nearly Rs.1.5 crore .

The agitating labourers, hailing from Kattubadipalem village in G. Konduru mandal of the Mylavaram constituency, alleged that Pamarthi Raja, a close aide of State Minister Kollu Ravindra, had engaged them for various works but failed to clear their payments. According to the workers, repeated attempts to recover their dues over the past several months yielded no result.

Several women participating in the agitation accused Raja of using the minister’s name to issue threats whenever they sought their pending wages. Expressing deep anguish , the workers said they had been pushed into severe financial distress as they relied entirely on daily labour to support their families.

The protesters reached the party office hoping to submit their grievances to senior leaders. However, after allegedly being denied entry into the premises, they launched a sit-in protest at the main gate and raised slogans demanding immediate action.

The incident has sparked widespread political discussion, with tribal workers openly protesting against a person linked to a minister from the ruling party. The labourers warned that they would intensify their agitation if the government failed to intervene and ensure payment of their pending dues at the earliest.
